The 1st day of the St Georges Open took place today after many volunteers spent hours clearing the snow off the green.
As for the action, the afternoon session was first on and it was father and son Steve and Dan Bodley who took to the green well with both players beating two Shropshire opponents to get to the qualifers. Dan faced former Midland Masters runner-up Adam Kirby and edged past him 19, while dad Steve found it harder against Adam’s Three Magpies team mate Glen Herbert, dipping out 14.
In the rearranged morning session that took place after the afternoon, it was Scott Simpson and Jon Palmer, returning from his ban, who qualified. Scott got through comfortably, beating Sir John Bayley team mate Chris Worthington and Wales’ Martin Jones 8, while Jon also had no scares against local man John Clarke and Staffordshire’s Nick Wyer, winning 10 and 8 respectively.
