Meole Brace Open Day 1 Review

8 players from outside the county qualified at Meole Brace on Saturday as they battled through the cold weather. Former Champion of Champion John Bailey qualified by beating three county players in Steve Pratt 19, Ashley Tattersley 16 and Derek Wright 12. Welsh Counterpart Leighton Roberts also got through, the former Isle of Man winner getting past Michael McDonnell 13 and former Shropshire Merit Winners Kiah Roberts 14 and Peter Farmer 18. Staffordshire also had two qualifiers with Aaron Tapper and Kevin Handley. Aaron got past Tommy Lowndres 14, then edged out Simon Coupe 20 in a thriller and then former winner Wayne Rogers 10. Kevin had three excellent wins over Martin Lloyd 19, Paul Leah 17 and then Rich Goddard 16. Andy Thornton made the long trip down from Cumbria to qualify, beating Jon Palmer 16 and Paul Evans 20. James Martin also made a long trip down from Huddersfield and beat three players from Shropshire; Will Tyler 16, Graham Dulson 17 and Andrew Foster 8. Jamie Bramley was another who beat three Shropshire players; Gary Whitehall 18, Paul Williams 8 and Clay Flattley 20. Tom Palmer was the other qualifier beating Tony Cunningham 11, Reece Farr 8 and then Dan Bodley 14.

The Sunday session was postponed and will now be played on Good Friday on 30th March.
