Meole Brace & St Georges Open Saturday Report

Two of the biggest names qualified at the Meole Brace Open today as Graeme Wilson and Greg Smith both got through this morning. Greg had one scare against Kevin Duncalf 19 after he beat Chris Ward 2 before getting past Tony Riley 4. Graeme had an easier time getting through by defeating Craig Bourbonneux 11, Larry Wells 8 and Nathan Dawes 5. All England Champion Darren Plenderleith also made it through by beating Rob Smith, Alf McDermott and Paul Hemming 12. Ryan Walters caused a stir by defeating Tommy Johnstone 13 in the qualifer, after beating Mick McGuinness and last year’s Semi Finalist Josh Mordue. Three Yorkshire men made it through as Gareth Coates, Keith Hatzer and Craig Gant all qualified. Gareth beat Matt Higgins, John Lloyd and Joe Williamson 9, while Keith defeated Keith Williamson and Mark Parry 19 and Craig got past Elliot McGuinness, Paul Mackie and Mark Furber 11. Duncan Reeves nearly made it a total lockout of Yorkshire qualifiers but lost to James Seville 19, after James had previously beaten John Parkinson.

Over at St Georges and Shropshire dominated the morning session with two Castlefields players getting through. Paul Williams defeated Craig Gant 20, Jason Groom 12 and Gareth Coates 19 to get through, while Champion of Champion Mike Beer beat Keith Hatzer 18 and then team mate Andy Judson 8 to qualify. In the afternoon and former Dragon Craig Barker got through beating Dean Nicholls 12, John Potter 17 and Gary Whitehall 9 and All England Champion Darren Plenderleith followed up his morning qualification at Meole Brace by doing it again at St Georges. He had a comfortable passage by beating Mark Hughes 11, Anton Davis 7 and Dave Bamford 10.
