Meole Brace & St Georges Open Sunday Report

Shropshire finally had some luck on Day 3 of the Meole Brace Open as they took 6 of the 8 qualifying spots. Castlefields led the way with three qualifiers, last year Champion of Champions finalists Mike Beer and Callum Wraight both getting through. Callum beat Russell Davies, Scott Parry and then Jamie King 3, while Mike defeated Jamie’s brother Aaron, John Crossley and Rob Hitchen 9. Mark Taylor was the third Fields qualifier after getting past Simon Lane, 2016 winner Matt Gillies and Rob Pierce 14. Len Lewis was the fourth qualifier in the morning after beating Peter Nichols, Peter Grimston and Paul Fellows 11. Into the afternoon and up and coming Ash Wellings¬† qualifed by defeating Tony Gatley, Steve Wallace and Gary Owen 17. Former Meole Brace player Mike Dulson used green knowledge to his advantage after getting past Harry Walklett, Mark Winnington and Gary Beff 6. Glyn Storer qualified in a tough half after beating Chris MacDonald, Chris Brown and John Gately 12. The other player to get through was Adam Jackson who defeated Rob Jones, Jimmy O’Brien and David Wright 13.

At St Georges and more big names qualified. In the morning Chris Brown and Carl Armitage both got through, Chris beating Tony Stevens, Glyn Storer, who would later return the favour, and John Newey 9. Carl defeated Tom Vickers and Tom Boyd 11. Tommy Johnstone had to beat Rob Hitchen 8 to qualify, after earlier getting past Jordie Baddeley. Larry Wells was the other player to get through, he beat Dave McDermott, Nick Lewis and Lee Dale 6.
