The final qualifiers for the Meole Brace Open took place on Friday and three youngsters earned their place. Sam Millward made it a hatrick of qualifying for the three Midland competitions by beating Keith Wall, Andy Hartwell and then Jermery Muff 14. Jack Whitehead was another young player to book his place, getting past Martin Green, Nick Peters and then Rob Fitzpatrick 20. Rob Fuller was the final qualifier beating Charlie Weaver and Nigel Ferrington 16. Former winner Andy Hughes got through by defeating Scott Thomas, Bill Kinchin and Nick Davies 9. Kevan Shaw qualified by getting past Steve Combellack, Chris Baker and Tony Gill 16, as did Danny Barwise who beat Chris Jones, Joleon Patridge and Jamie Dunn 8. Carl Fielding survived a scare first round against Tom Roden to qualify by beating Ian Formstone and Mark Burdett 14, while local player Glyn Herbert was rewarded for entering a rare competition by qualifying after getting past Jamie Jones, Dave Williams and Paul Lamb 18.
