Former three time winners Castlefields got through the 4th session of the BCGBA World Club Championship along with the George of Warwick & Worcester.
Castlefields recovered from 17 down against Birches Head Hotel in the 1st round after three games off, with Rich Clay the best 13, to have the last 5 winners and win by 26 overall, Adam Jones winning 6 and Andy Duckett 9. They took on Pudsey from Yorkshire in their second game after they defeated Stretton Anglesey by 22. Thomas Hanson was the Yorkshire’s side best winner 13, while Conor Chamberlain was best for Stretton. Castlefields led by 18 off four games with Jon Palmer the best 21-10, and then held on with three winners at the back to extend their victory to 24. Thomas Hanson and Chris Hatton were the only two winners for Pudsey, 18.
The George were on the other green and beat Broughton & Bretton by 38 with captain Elliot McGuinness and Paul Hemming leading the way winning 7. The Penlington’s were the only two winners for the Welsh side, Francis the best 14. They then faced Willenhall Nordley, who had beaten Eastwood Park by 22, largely thanks to Ross Edwards winning 2 despite a 21-8 win for Eastwood Park’s Dave Szeniawski. It was a close game as the George led by just 4 after the first four games thanks to Marc Wilson’s 12 win. But the George took three of the final four cards, with Russ Prosser the best 11, to take the game by 14, despite Mark Hall winning 12 for Nordley.
