BCGBA World Club Championships Review

Parkfield Labour Club reclaimed their BCGBA World Club Championship by defeating Shropshire side Castlefields by 15 in the final. It wasn’t plain sailing though as Castlefields led by 4 after the first four games off. Champion of Champion Mike Beer leading the way winning 8, while Owen Jackson had won 13 for the North Lancs & Fylde side. But Parkfield took 3 out of the back four, with Wayne Ditchfield winning 11, Gary Ellis 12 and Dave Watters 14. Parkfield had beaten holders King George V in the Semi Finals by just 5 shots, thankful to Owen Jackson winning 5 as best of their 4 winners. Andy Gibbs’ 8 win wasn’t quite enough for the reigning champions. In the other Semi Finals, Castlefields had beaten Castle S&SC by 17, taking 5 of the winners, the best being Mike Beer 8. Steve Morrey and Mike Yearsley were best for the Cheshire side, winning 16.

The Quarter Finals saw Parkfield beat the George by 40, Wayne Ditchfield the best winning 2, with opposition captain Elliot McGuinness the best of the George’s 2 winners, 11. King George V had all 8 winners in their game against Holme, Chris Bergin and Andy Gibbs the best winning 7. Castle S&SC beat Haunchwood in the closest Quarter Final game, by just 7 chalks. They had 5 winners with Jacon Cornes and Paul Dooley both winning 12 in the back to overturn a 10 shot deficit after Darren Tring had won 11 for the North Midlands side in the front. Castlefields had shocked 2015 winners Thongsbridge by 14 shots in their first game, Leighton Roberts the best winning 6, while Craig Gant’s 8 best win was in vain for the Yorkshire side.
