Big Smash 2018 Preview

The 2018 Big Smash takes place tomorrow with 128 players chasing the £2,000 first prize, one of the biggest in the game. Last year’s winner Matty Stewart aims to become the first player to defend his title, and plays D Jones first of all at DCC. Previous winners Gareth Jones and Danny Ferris are in the field too, taking on D Rogers and D Bell at the bottom and top of the draw at Askam. Local players and previous big competition winners Andy Thornton, Billy Thornton, Paul Kissock, Kieran Clark and Liam Baxter are all in the field and hoping to use green knowledge to get far. North Midlands have another strong contingent in the field including current All England Champion Darren Plenderleith, as well as county players Mark Burdett, Paul Lamb and Jamie Dunn. Warwick and Worcester stars Jason Galvin and Carl Fielding are also there, with Carl playing Liam Baxter in a big 1st round tie. Former All England champions Matt Gilmore and Callum Wraight make the trip up to Cumbria, along with other big competition winners Phil Lee, Matt Gillies, Jimmy Derby, Rich Goddard, Chris Mordue and Gareth Gwilliam.

Play will start at 8.45am and there will be music all day, the bar will be open and great refreshments provided by Browns of Lindal.

Admission is free and spectators will have the chance to win cash and other prizes in the The Crowd Cash Challenge.
