BCGBA Endsleigh Senior County Matchweek 2 Preview

Section 1

The two winners of Matchweek 1 meet in a potential winner takes all clash. Warwick and Worcester defeated Lancashire and Greater Manchester beat North Lancs & Fylde in contrasting styles in their last games. Warwick and Worcester have gone to British Oak, where they have used successfully in the past, while Greater Manchester turn to North Chadderton. North Lancs & Fylde and Lancashire meet in a derby match that will end one of the teams’ hopes of getting out of the group. North Lancs go to Frenchwood Social Club, while Lancashire are using the other Garswood Hall green, hoping to match the result they got on the no.1 green last matchweek.

Section 2

North Midlands meet Shropshire in a repeat of last year’s Semi Finals with North Midlands coming on top by just 4 chalks. A similar result would mean the 2009 winners could not qualify from the group, and with North Midlands using Coundon, it could well be. But Shropshire have gone to Pontesbury, their own banker, to get a good result themselves and keep themselves in the hunt. Merseyside, fresh from their 100 plus home win last matchweek on the Wheatsheaf, go to North Ashton Village this time to try and get a big home win, while their opponents Cheshire, so unlucky to lose against North Midlands last game, turn to Beech House, where a lot of the big names clash.

Section 3

Potteries & District start their 2018 Crosfield Cup campaign by taking on Wales who lost out to Cumbria first game. They are using Dilhorne, the venue where they beat North Midlands by 77 in last year’s final, while Wales are going back to Trefnant, a green they have used many times before.

Section 4

Yorkshire will be looking to reclaim their title by beating Derbyshire after seeing off Staffordshire in the first matchweek. They will be wanting a quicker start at Meltham than they did last game, while Derbyshire will look to win to stay in with a chance of qualifying, and turn to Buxton Park to give themselves a good chance of doing so. South Yorkshire won first game and will want to go into the Derby match with Yorkshire with another win against Staffordshire. They go to Crookesmoor Recreation, with Staffordshire going to Stafford Bowling Club.
