JP wins Autumn Waterloo!

Jon Palmer has won the 2018 Autumn Waterloo with an accomplished display of bowls throughout finals day. He beat Phil Lee in the final 14, having played well long at the end of the game to go 20-11 up and then hold his nerve to finish it off. In the Semi Finals he got past Stuart Mort comfortably 10, while Phil Lee ended the fine run of junior Matty Worden 15. Jon had a great win over hot favourite Simon Coupe in the first game 15, racing into a 15-8 lead and holding Simon off. Stuart always led against Kevan Shaw as he beat him 14, while Phil Lee defeated David Higginbottom 17 and Matty Worden was impressive again in defeating Kevin Boon 13.

Jon on Facebook said “I’ve genuinely no words right now. I’m sorry I’ve not got back to the many well wishes and congratulatory messages over the week, I’m just trying to take it all in at the moment. I am very humbled! I’ll try and respond as best as I can tomorrow. Thank you so much all, it means the absolute world!”

It was a more incredible success given he didn’t play last season and also did his cruciate knee just a few months ago!

Jon now plays Craig Podmore in the Champion of Champions on Saturday.
