A quality field of 16 came through qualifying at the weekend at the Wrockwardine Wood Open. Previous winners Pete Farmer and Scott Simpson qualified in their quest to reclaim their title. Pete beat Darrell Matkin 6, Chris Ward 14 and Conor Chamberlain 19 in getting through, while Scott got past Jason Colledge 5, Dave Clarke 8 and Kirk Stevens 17. Former Champion of Champions winner Mike Beer also came through after defeating Wem USC’s Derek Wright 19, Russ Pegram of Newport 13 and Martyn Higgins 11. Two Merit winners also qualified in North Midlands’ Darren Plenderleith and Warwick and Worcester’s Carl Fielding. Darren got past Tracey Baker 8, Kevin Hocknull 12 and Paul Williams 11, while Carl beat Dean Missere 17, Kiah Roberts 20 and Clay Flattley 15. Two brothers qualified in Adam and Jordan Patrick of Warwick and Worcester. Adam had two comfortable first games against Adam Dickerson 9 and Jan Wakefield 8 before having a much tougher qualifier versus Paul Beechey 20. Jordan got past Chris Gill 5, Jamie Wyer 20 and Tim Jones 16. Staffordshire had two qualifiers in Nathan Dawes and Simon Homer. Simon beat Simon Green 9, Greg Fordham 7 and Paul Patrick 14, with Nathan getting past Paul Tonks 8, Matt Higgins 13 and Glyn Storer 15.
Ashley Tattersley made the long trip down from Yorkshire and got through impressively. He beat Gary Whitehall 3, Wayne Phillips 11 and Darrell Handley 14. Former homester Scott Harries got through with an amazing 1 win in the qualifier over Roy Bradburn, after beating Ian Gaut 18 and Kane Beaman 13. Ben Lynch from Warwick and Worcester also got through after defeating Pete Thomas 14, James Martin 20 and Barry Booth 5. Former Meole Open winner Wayne Rogers got through after getting past Chris Worthington 16, Kevin Handley 18 and Mark Selley 20. Russ Prosser qualified after beating Lee Woodfield 12, Chris Baker 11 and Andy Howie 15. Bowring youngster Ayden Smith got through after beating Chris Newbrook 11, Adam Kirby 12 and Ash Bracken 14, while another Shropshire player Neil Kershaw from was a surprise qualifier after defeating Paul Chamberlain 3, Phil Burndred 13 and Matt Farmer 12.
