There are plenty of big names who are chasing the first big title of the season and the first ticket to the 2019 Champion of Champions. Simon Coupe is the bookies favourite and has a bye into the last 16 after Rob Carter had to pull out. Wayne Ditchfield is another big name in the field and has a tough first round game against Jason Galvin. The game of the first round is between two former Champion of Champions in Graeme Wilson and John Bailey. Two more big competition winners from last year in Spring Waterloo Champion Kevan Shaw and Sandal Classic winner Dean Missere take each other on 1st round. Tom Palmer and Josh Mordue are two up and coming youngsters in the game and play each other, as well as Gareth Herbert and Scott Harries, Scott being a former home player here. Another former home player is Josh Bradburn who plays another Shropshire player Andy Duckett, and Tom Roden, who takes on Adam Weaver. Nathan Dawes has qualified for all three big pre-season competitions and plays Chris Eccles, while his Dudley Dell team mate Simon Homer takes on Felix Abba. Ryan Prosser has won the Meole Brace Open down the road and will hope to win in Shropshire again as he plays Nigel Egan. Steve Freer and Chris Ward have won plenty of these competitions between them and will look to add another as they play Nigel Hughes and Steve Gilfedder respectively. Paul Dale and Paul Leah play in plenty of big competitions so will hope experience pays off when they meet. James Martin makes the long trip down from Yorkshire to face youngster Jordie Baddeley. Gareth Coates has made his name on the competition circuit recently and plays Adam Jones from Shropshire.
